Happy 8th Birthday, Sweet Pea

Where do I even begin? It seems like so long ago and yet feels like yesterday. It's hard to imagine that after 2 long years of trying and 2 heartbreaking miscarriages, that you finally joined our little family. Our Abbey Rose.

From the moment you entered this world, your eyes have mesmerized people. You were the first grandchild on both sides of the family and you have fully accepted that role. You are my drama queen, my diva, my rock star. Your personality is both dangerous and enviable. You make friends easier than any child I have ever known, yet you always return to your family and church friends as your faithful "go to's". Although it's your outer beauty that first attracts attention, it is your inner beauty that amazes people. I can't tell you how many teachers fight over who is going to "steal" you and take you home. Your sense of humor is outstanding and your eyes smile when you do. Your laugh is contagious and your smile heart melting. You can be sneaky and deviant sometimes, but that is just your Daddy coming out in you;-). You unfortunately inherited the "bare-minimum" gene, you all know the one: how can I do the bare minimum and still get by? I wished I could blame that on your Daddy too, but I think you were hit by a double dose of that one.

You struggle with your small size. At 8 years old you barely tip the scale at 36 pounds and stand at a mere 42" tall. However, you are strong and independent, almost to a fault. You already know who you want to marry and what you want to be when you grow up. You "proposed" to your friend Matt when you were 4 years old and the two of you have been inseparable since then.

Your love for the Lord fills my heart with joy. And it's thrilling to see how much you've grown spiritually in just a few short years. You challenge me as a parent both in good ways and in bad, but in the end you are an incredible child. I am so blessed to call you mine. I wish you many more happy childhood years. I love you more than you will ever know! Happy Birthday, my Lovely!

Well since I am bawling my eyballs out, how were you even able to type this? And the picture of Abbey feeding Brady just melted my heart.

Happy Birthday Abbey, Mimmy, Uncle Phil, Brooke and Lindsey love you so much!

How does a child capture our hearts so completely? How do they know just the right things to say? How is it that they know when their smile will melt your heart the most? Who ever told them that a hug or a kiss would just bring a poppa to his knees? I'm not at all sure of the answers but I do know that Miss Abbey Rose is just perfect. She is a reflection of Gods smiles on us with the twinkling eyes that are larger than life. She is Gods Love towards us that is full of warmth and sincerity. Miss Abbey is Gods Beauty and Grace and unconditional love. She is a Blessing and a Joy to be around. Yes, Happy birthday to Miss Abbey with all our love.

Well, I told you I was going to comment the other night, but then after trying to help Mimmy with facebook, I was too tired to think... so now I can leave my comment!

Abbey certainly is a special girl! I have never known such a young child to have such a BIG BIG heart! And of course I don't have to tell you (but I can tell all the readers) that this is not a trait that just popped up, she has always had this big caring heart!

I will never forget when Jim's Grandma Nell passed away and all Abbey wanted to do was call Uncle Jim and tell him that she was thinking about him because she remembers how sad she was when her "Virgil" passed away. How old was she then? 4 or 5?

But of course it's not just her caring heart that makes her so loveable... it's also that awesome ability she has to make anyone laugh! Even with her Knock Knock jokes! ;)

And lets not forget her beautiful spirit! Remember when she was baptized what she said afterwards, she heard God talk to her afterwards... I think she said He told her "I am very proud of you, Abbey" (just as he spoke of His Son after His baptism, "This is my son, in whom I am well pleased"...

Boy is she special. I hope that Joshua possesses even just a quarter of the love and spirit that his cousin Abbey has!

We love you Abbey Girl!

Abbey is amazing. She is so funny. I love the way that every Sunday after church now, she comes up to me in the lunchroom and rubs my tummy and says "Hi, baby Cunningham" and asks if I can feel him. Then she puts her ear up to my tummy like she's having a conversation with him, and I always ask what he tells her, and she just laughs.

She's always so funny and loving. Just as much as that's a testament to her, I think it is to the type of loving parents she has and the way that they raise her.
